Asia-Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art
The Gallery's flagship project is the Asia-Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art series of exhibitions, now a major event on the national and international arts calendar. The expertise developed over the past decade in staging the Triennial has led to the establishment of the Australian Centre of Asia-Pacific Art (ACAPA), to foster alliances, scholarship and publishing, and the formation of an internationally significant collection of art from the Asia-Pacific region.

Famous quotes containing the words contemporary and/or art:
“Eclecticism is the degree zero of contemporary general culture: one listens to reggae, watches a western, eats McDonald’s food for lunch and local cuisine for dinner, wears Paris perfume in Tokyo and “retro” clothes in Hong Kong; knowledge is a matter for TV games. It is easy to find a public for eclectic works.”
—Jean François Lyotard (b. 1924)
“How dost, my boy? Art cold?
I am cold myself. Where is this straw, good fellow?
The art of our necessities is strange
And can make vile things precious.”
—William Shakespeare (1564–1616)
