Research Activity
The university has the highest proportion of research active staff of all the 'modern' Scottish universities and develops pioneering expertise that cuts across it's specialist fields. The university has three flagships: health and rehabilitation; creativity and culture; and sustainable business.
Queen Margaret University has five research centres:
- Centre for Integrated Healthcare Research (CIHR)
- Speech Science Research Centre (SSRC)
- Royal Bank of Scotland Centre for the Older Person's Agenda (COPA)
- Institute for International Health and Development (IIHD)
- International Centre for the Study of Planned Events (ICSPE)
In the last five years, researchers in the institution have secured, as principal investigators, research grants from the UK Research Councils (e.g. EPSRC, ESRC, MRC). In addition researchers have attracted income from the NHS, Chief Scientist Office, Central and Local Government and major charities and industry, e.g. Kelloggs, Mars, Postwatch.
The university operates an open access repository of the research output of the university, called eResearch, with the intention of making the work of researchers open and available to the public via the web.

Famous quotes containing the words research and/or activity:
“The working woman may be quick to see any problems with children as her fault because she isnt as available to them. However, the fact that she is employed is rarely central to the conflict. And overall, studies show, being employed doesnt have negative effects on children; carefully done research consistently makes this clear.”
—Grace Baruch (20th century)
“A constant smirk upon the face, and a whiffling activity of the body, are strong indications of futility.”
—Philip Dormer Stanhope, 4th Earl Chesterfield (16941773)
