The Pylons of Messina were used from 1955 to 1994 to carry a 220 kilovolt (150 kilovolt until 1971) powerline across the Strait of Messina, between the Scilla substation in Calabria on the Italian mainland at 38°14′12″N 15°44′28″E / 38.23667°N 15.74111°E / 38.23667; 15.74111 (Scilla substation) and the Messina-Santo substation in Sicily at 38°10′28″N 15°32′17″E / 38.17444°N 15.53806°E / 38.17444; 15.53806 (Messina-Santo substation).
