Famous quotes containing the words prime, ministers and/or era:

What was lost in the European cataclysm was not only the Jewish past—the whole life of a civilization—but also a major share of the Jewish future.... [ellipsis in source] It was not only the intellect of a people in its prime that was excised, but the treasure of a people in its potential.
    Cynthia Ozick (b. 1928)

All thoughts, all passions, all delights,
    Whatever stirs this mortal frame,
Are all but ministers of Love,
    And feed his sacred flame.
    Samuel Taylor Coleridge (1772–1834)

Erasmus was the light of his century; others were its strength: he lighted the way; others knew how to walk on it while he himself remained in the shadow as the source of light always does. But he who points the way into a new era is no less worthy of veneration than he who is the first to enter it; those who work invisibly have also accomplished a feat.
    Stefan Zweig (18811942)
