Community

The PAGES community counts over 5000 scientists in more than 100 countries around the world. This growing community of scientists is conducting research within the PAGES sphere of interest. All scientists are encouraged to initiate PAGES scientific Foci and Cross-Cutting Themes, participate in PAGES workshops and contribute to PAGES products.

PAGES (Past Global Changes), founded in 1991, is a core project of the International Geosphere-Biosphere Programme IGBP and is funded by the U.S. National Science Foundation, the Swiss National Science Foundation, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

Famous quotes containing the word community:

Commitment, by its nature, frees us from ourselves and, while it stands us in opposition to some, it joins us with others similarly committed. Commitment moves us from the mirror trap of the self absorbed with the self to the freedom of a community of shared values.
    Michael Lewis (late 20th century)

It never was in the power of any man or any community to call the arts into being. They come to serve his actual wants, never to please his fancy.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

I don’t think Dr. King helped racial harmony, I think he helped racial justice. What I profess to do is help the oppressed and if I cause a load of discomfort in the white community and the black community, that in my opinion means I’m being effective, because I’m not trying to make them comfortable. The job of an activist is to make people tense and cause social change.
    Al, Reverend Sharpton (b. 1954)
