Owen Paterson - Front Bench Politician

Front Bench Politician

Paterson was appointed Shadow agriculture, Fisheries and Food Minister from 2003-05. As agriculture spokesman he became an expert on bovine TB and campaigned for the dairy industry. He visited Michigan, Maryland and Washington to discuss Bovine TB Policy, writing extensively on the issue facing the UK.

He travelled all over the North Atlantic to produce a landmark Green Paper on Fisheries. Paterson joined the crew of the Kiroan, one of the few remaining trawlers out of Fleetwood, Lancashire, to view the fishing practices which have been created by the EU's Common Fisheries Policy. He wrote the Green Paper "Consultation on a National Policy on Fisheries Management in U.K.Waters" which was used by Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall's Fish Fight Campaign.

Famous quotes containing the words front and/or politician:

I may be able to spot arrowheads on the desert but a refrigerator is a jungle in which I am easily lost. My wife, however, will unerringly point out that the cheese or the leftover roast is hiding right in front of my eyes. Hundreds of such experiences convince me that men and women often inhabit quite different visual worlds. These are differences which cannot be attributed to variations in visual acuity. Man and women simply have learned to use their eyes in very different ways.
    Edward T. Hall (b. 1914)

A politician is a statesman who approaches every question with an open mouth.
    Adlai Stevenson (1900–1965)
