Oulder Hill Community School - Experience Week and School Trips

Experience Week and School Trips

The school offers pupils in years 7-9 the chance to experience a week of experiences. The week usually takes place in mid June and allows pupils to choose from a list of activities such as residential visits, day visits and some take place on the school premises. The list of locations has included visits to France, Italy, Spain as well as day trip visits to local entertainment venues. The trio to Biggar in Scotland was one of the ever popular activities. Open only to those in year 7 it involved a coach journey to Scotland and a week of activities and social bonding.

In 2007 it was announced that Experience Week would not continue due to the merger with a special school and increased health and safety regulations.

Famous quotes containing the words experience, week, school and/or trips:

Emigration, forced or chosen, across national frontiers or from village to metropolis, is the quintessential experience of our time.
    John Berger (b. 1926)

Pray be always in motion. Early in the morning go and see things; and the rest of the day go and see people. If you stay but a week at a place, and that an insignificant one, see, however, all that is to be seen there; know as many people, and get into as many houses as ever you can.
Philip Dormer Stanhope, 4th Earl Chesterfield (1694–1773)

Dad, if you really want to know what happened in school, then you’ve got to know exactly who’s in the class, who rides the bus, what project they’re working on in science, and how your child felt that morning.... Without these facts at your fingertips, all you can really think to say is “So how was school today?” And you’ve got to be prepared for the inevitable answer—”Fine.” Which will probably leave you wishing that you’d never asked.
    Ron Taffel (20th century)

A great proportion of the inhabitants of the Cape are always thus abroad about their teaming on some ocean highway or other, and the history of one of their ordinary trips would cast the Argonautic expedition into the shade.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
