Design Details
There are many key points behind the creation of an arcuate winged ROV but primarily the arcuate wing uses design over sheer weight to solve issues with umbilical cable drag in strong currents. The design counteracts the lifting force of the umbilical cable (also known as tether) with downward force when the control surfaces are properly applied. The speed of the ship or current has little effect on the operational stability of the vehicle. The arcuate wing has proven to increase cable use efficiency by as much as 75% and reduce the amount of cable necessary to operate or tow at depth.
The physical dynamics of the arcuate wing creates a stable instrumentation platform and allows for maneuverability. This increases system effectiveness in high currents and cross currents when towed or using thruster power. There is little tendency for the vehicle to rock in shifting currents.
The Nova Ray ROV has had seven patents for utility and design issued by the US and Canadian patent offices.

Famous quotes containing the words design and/or details:
“With wonderful art he grinds into paint for his picture all his moods and experiences, so that all his forces may be brought to the encounter. Apparently writing without a particular design or responsibility, setting down his soliloquies from time to time, taking advantage of all his humors, when at length the hour comes to declare himself, he puts down in plain English, without quotation marks, what he, Thomas Carlyle, is ready to defend in the face of the world.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
“Patience is a most necessary qualification for business; many a man would rather you heard his story than granted his request. One must seem to hear the unreasonable demands of the petulant, unmoved, and the tedious details of the dull, untired. That is the least price that a man must pay for a high station.”
—Philip Dormer Stanhope, 4th Earl Chesterfield (16941773)
