According to the Mapping L.A. survey of the Los Angeles Times, Northeast Los Angeles consists of:a 17.18-square-mile region comprised of seven neighborhoods, which are:
- Atwater Village
- Cypress Park
- Eagle Rock
- Glassell Park
- Highland Park
- Montecito Heights
- Mount Washington
Other neighborhoods within the region are:
- Arroyo Seco
- El Sereno
- Garvanza
- Heritage Square
- Hermon
- Lincoln Heights
- Monterey Hills
