In 2007, the Economist Herman Daly postulated that the work of Georgescu-Roegen was under-appreciated because he was ahead of his time. In 2012, The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) in New-Delhi, India annonced the first edition of the "Nicholas Georgescu-Roegen Annual Awards" in honor of economist and mathematician, from which Herman Daly is a jury member. Famous quotes containing the word work:
“You do not become a dissident just because you decide one day to take up this most unusual career. You are thrown into it by your personal sense of responsibility, combined with a complex set of external circumstances. You are cast out of the existing structures and placed in a position of conflict with them. It begins as an attempt to do your work well, and ends with being branded an enemy of society.”
—Václav Havel (b. 1936)
“Meanwhile, if the fear of falling into error sets up a mistrust of Science, which in the absence of such scruples gets on with the work itself, and actually cognizes something, it is hard to see why we should not turn round and mistrust this very mistrust.... What calls itself fear of error reveals itself rather as fear of the truth.”
—Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel (17701831)
“They that goe downe to th sea in ships:
Their busines there to doo
In waters great. The Lords work see,
Ith deep his wonders too.”
—Bible: Hebrew Psalm CVII (Bay Psalm Book)
