Apology To The Stolen Generations
On February 13, 2008, then Prime Minister The Honarable Kevin Rudd moved a motion of Apology to Australia's Indigenous Peoples, apologising for past laws, policies, and practices that devastated Australia’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples—in particular members of the stolen generations. Famous quotes containing the words apology, stolen and/or generations:
“Our systems, perhaps, are nothing more than an unconscious apology for our faultsa gigantic scaffolding whose object is to hide from us our favorite sin.”
—Henri-Frédéric Amiel (18211881)
“A horse, a buggy and several sets of harness, valued in all at about $250, were stolen last night from the stable of Howard Quinlan, near Kingsville. The county police are at work on the case, but so far no trace of either thieves or booty has been found.”
—H.L. (Henry Lewis)
“Books have their destinies like men. And their fates, as made by generations of readers, are very different from the destinies foreseen for them by their authors. Gullivers Travels, with a minimum of expurgation, has become a childrens book; a new illustrated edition is produced every Christmas. Thats what comes of saying profound things about humanity in terms of a fairy story.”
—Aldous Huxley (18941963)
