Melbourne Storm

Melbourne Storm is an Australian professional rugby league club based in the city of Melbourne. It has competed in the National Rugby League (NRL) premiership since its first season in 1998. Coached by Craig Bellamy and captained by Cameron Smith, the team plays its home games at AAMI Park. Melbourne Storm has also competed in the NRL's Under-20s competition since its first season in 2008.

Originally a Super League initiative and one of six NRL teams which are privately owned, the Melbourne club is currently 100% owned and operated by News Limited. Storm was the first fully professional rugby league team based in Victoria. Melbourne has officially won two premierships (1999) & (2012), one minor premiership (2011) and one World Club Challenge victory (2000) in its history. The club also won several other titles between 2006 and 2010, but these were annulled after the club was found to have breached the salary cap; these titles included two premierships (2007 and 2009), three minor premierships (2006, 2007 and 2008) and one World Club Challenge (2010). Altogether the club has competed in six grand finals, winning four and losing two. From its inception in 1998 until the end of 2009, Storm played the majority of its home games at Olympic Park Stadium. Since 2010, the club has played its home games at AAMI Park.

Famous quotes containing the word storm:

    Jesus, Lover of my soul, Let me to thy bosom fly,
    While the nearer waters roll, While the tempest still is high;
    Hide me, O my Saviour, hide, Till the storm of life be past;
    Safe into the haven guide, O receive my soul at last.
    Charles Wesley (1707–1788)
