Toys

A popular children's toy in the US is Lincoln Logs, consisting of various notched dowel rods that can be fitted together to build scale miniature-sized structures. Lincoln Logs are said to have been named after Abraham Lincoln, who was born in a log cabin in rural Kentucky. He grew up in another log cabin in Indiana.

Famous quotes containing the word toys:

    Scarfs, garters, gold, amuse his riper stage,
    And beads and prayer-books are the toys of age:
    Pleased with this bauble still, as that before;
    ‘Till tired he sleeps, and life’s poor play is o’er.
    Alexander Pope (1688–1744)

    Why should kings and nobles have
    Pictured trophies to their grave,
    And we, churls, to thee deny
    Thy pretty toys with thee to lie—
    A more harmless vanity?
    Charles Lamb (1775–1834)

    The child that is not clean and neat,
    With lots of toys and things to eat,
    He is a naughty child, I’m sure—
    Or else his dear Papa is poor.
    Robert Louis Stevenson (1850–1894)
