List Of Prime Ministers Of Denmark

The Prime Minister of Denmark is the head of government of Denmark and leader of the Cabinet; since 1918 they have held the title of "Minister of State" (Danish: statsminister). The Prime Minister is formally appointed by the Monarch, who is head of state.

The highest ranking non-monarchial offices prior to 1848 are regarded as predecessors of the modern office of Prime Minister. There have been several titles used; "Grand Chancellor", "Minister of State", "Prime Minister", "Council President" and Minister of State, once again. Each Prime Minister since 1848 has been the leader of one or more cabinets (for a complete list see Cabinet of Denmark).

Denmark's current Prime Minister is Helle Thorning-Schmidt representing the social democratic party Socialdemokraterne. Helle Thorning-Schmidt took office on October 3, 2011, taking over the position from Lars Løkke Rasmussen, representing the liberal party Venstre.

Famous quotes containing the words list of, list, prime and/or ministers:

    Shea—they call him Scholar Jack—
Went down the list of the dead.
    Officers, seamen, gunners, marines,
The crews of the gig and yawl,
The bearded man and the lad in his teens,
    Carpenters, coal-passers—all.
    Joseph I. C. Clarke (1846–1925)

Every morning I woke in dread, waiting for the day nurse to go on her rounds and announce from the list of names in her hand whether or not I was for shock treatment, the new and fashionable means of quieting people and of making them realize that orders are to be obeyed and floors are to be polished without anyone protesting and faces are to be made to be fixed into smiles and weeping is a crime.
    Janet Frame (b. 1924)

By whatever means it is accomplished, the prime business of a play is to arouse the passions of its audience so that by the route of passion may be opened up new relationships between a man and men, and between men and Man. Drama is akin to the other inventions of man in that it ought to help us to know more, and not merely to spend our feelings.
    Arthur Miller (b. 1915)

All thoughts, all passions, all delights,
    Whatever stirs this mortal frame,
Are all but ministers of Love,
    And feed his sacred flame.
    Samuel Taylor Coleridge (1772–1834)
