Famous quotes containing the words messianic, judaism, jewish and/or christians:
“I think the Messianic concept, which is the Jewish offering to mankind, is a great victory. What does it mean? It means that history has a sense, a meaning, a direction; it goes somewhere, and necessarily in a good direction—the Messiah.”
—Elie Wiesel (b. 1928)
“Christianity is the religion of melancholy and hypochondria. Islam, on the other hand, promotes apathy, and Judaism instills its adherents with a certain choleric vehemence, the heathen Greeks may well be called happy optimists.”
—Franz Grillparzer (1791–1872)
“Jesus was a brilliant Jewish stand-up comedian, a phenomenal improvisor. His parables are great one-liners.”
—Camille Paglia (b. 1947)
“We are no longer Christians: we have outgrown Christianity not because we have been too remote from it but rather because we have been too close—it is precisely our more stringent and more fastidious piety that forbids us to remain Christians nowadays.”
—Friedrich Nietzsche (1844–1900)
