Works
Critiques of Li Bai's works has focused on his strong sense of the continuity of poetic tradition, his glorification of alcoholic beverages (and, indeed, frank celebration of drunkenness), his use of persona, the fantastic extremes of some of his imagery, his violations of formal poetic rules – and his ability to combine all of these with a seemingly effortless virtuosity in order to produce inimitable poetry.

Famous quotes containing the word works:
“You are always looking for already-felt emotions, just as you like to get an old pair of trousers back from the cleaners, which seem new when you dont look too closely. Artists are cleaners, dont let yourself be taken in by them. True modern works of art are made not by artists but quite simply by men.”
—Francis Picabia (18781953)
“He never works and never bathes, and yet he appears well fed always.... Well, what does he live on then?”
—Edward T. Lowe, and Frank Strayer. Sauer (William V. Mong)
“Artists, whatever their medium, make selections from the abounding materials of life, and organize these selections into works that are under the control of the artist.... In relation to the inclusiveness and literally endless intricacy of life, art is arbitrary, symbolic and abstracted. That is its value and the source of its own kind of order and coherence.”
—Jane Jacobs (b. 1916)
