Lancaster Park - Rugby League

Rugby League

Lancaster Park has served over the years as a 'home away from home' stadium for teams in the Australasian NRL competition, such as the Wests Tigers due to the popularity of the sport in areas such as Christchurch. Despite the name of the country's sole NRL team the New Zealand Warriors insinuating AMI Stadium is part of their franchise base, the team is based at Mount Smart Stadium in Auckland.

In 2010 the Sydney Roosters took a home game to this stadium where they lost 20–18 to the Warriors.

The 2011 ANZAC rugby league Test match was originally scheduled to be played at the stadium but was moved because of the damages from the 2011 Canterbury earthquake.

Famous quotes containing the word league:

He will deliver you from six troubles; in seven no harm shall touch you. In famine he will redeem you from death, and in war from the power of the sword. You shall be hidden from the scourge of the tongue, and shall not fear destruction when it comes. At destruction and famine you shall laugh, and shall not fear the wild animals of the earth. For you shall be in league with the stones of the field, and the wild animals shall be at peace with you.
    Bible: Hebrew, Job 5:19-23.
