Knights Stadium - Future

Future

The new stadium, which would be called BB&T Ballpark, is expect to cost $54 million. Mecklenburg County is contributing land valued at $20–24 million, and an additional $8 millon in cash. The city of Charlotte is contributing $7.25 million, with another $750K From Charlotte Center City Partners. The remaining $38 millon will be financed by the Charlotte Knights. Construction of the new stadium is expected to begin in October, 2012.

Knights owner Don Beaver said the only thing left is lining up financing for the team’s share of the cost. As part of the agreement, the Knights must begin play in the new stadium in 2014, are responsible for construction cost overruns, and annual stadium operating cost.

In addition to financial hurdles, the planned stadium has also run into a series of legal challenges. Attorney Jerry Reese – who reiterated that he believes the city is better suited for major-league baseball – has filed at least five lawsuits to block an uptown stadium.

Famous quotes containing the word future:

If nations always moved from one set of furnished rooms to another—and always into a better set—things might be easier, but the trouble is that there is no one to prepare the new rooms. The future is worse than the ocean—there is nothing there. It will be what men and circumstances make it.
    Alexander Herzen (1812–1870)

The most remarkable aspect of the transition we are living through is not so much the passage from want to affluence as the passage from labor to leisure.... Leisure contains the future, it is the new horizon.... The prospect then is one of unremitting labor to bequeath to future generations a chance of founding a society of leisure that will overcome the demands and compulsions of productive labor so that time may be devoted to creative activities or simply to pleasure and happiness.
    Henri Lefebvre (b. 1901)

For a parent, it’s hard to recognize the significance of your work when you’re immersed in the mundane details. Few of us, as we run the bath water or spread the peanut butter on the bread, proclaim proudly, “I’m making my contribution to the future of the planet.” But with the exception of global hunger, few jobs in the world of paychecks and promotions compare in significance to the job of parent.
    Joyce Maynard (20th century)
