History
The current airport main terminal building was opened in 1979, and has served international flights since 1985. The airport was renovated for the Kazan millennium celebrations in 2005. It currently handles nearly one million passengers yearly, and serves medium- to large-sized aircraft. The airport has received visits from dignitaries including heads of states, premiers, and foreign secretaries. The terminal area of the airport parks 20 aircraft. The concrete runway is built upon an older, dismantled 3500 m runway.
