Departments
Eight departments are housed within the College:
- Applied Statistics
- Computer Engineering
- Electrical and Microelectronic Engineering
- Microsystems Engineering
- Industrial and Systems Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Chemical Engineering and Biomedical Engineering
- Manufacturing Leadership and Product Development
The college offers the following degrees: bachelor of science, master of science, master of engineering, advanced certificates, doctor of philosophy, and dual degrees - BS/MS and BS/MEng. Areas of study include: applied statistics, biomedical engineering, chemical engineering, computer engineering, electrical engineering, engineering management, engineering vibrations, industrial engineering, manufacturing leadership, mechanical engineering, microelectronic engineering, microsystems engineering, product development, and sustainable engineering. Students may choose to do an options or focus areas within degree programs in the following areas: aerospace, automotive, ergonomics, energy and the environment, clean and renewable energy, bioengineering, robotics, six sigma, lean six sigma, supply chain management, and wireless communication. Minors are offered in chemical engineering systems analysis, computer engineering, electrical engineering, industrial engineering, engineering management, mechanical engineering, microelectronics and nanofabrication, and sustainable product design.
For students who are undecided about their preferred area of engineering, an exploration program is offered in the first year. Students are exposed to all of the disciplines and make a decision by the end of the first year. Students do not lose any time to graduation by taking this path.
A dual degree option is available for highly qualified students in some programs. Students earn both their bachelor's and their master's degree in five years. An additional summer term is sometimes required to complete the thesis.
The College of Applied Science and Technology houses the engineering technology department, while the software engineering department is part of the B. Thomas Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences

Famous quotes containing the word departments:
“A man sees only what concerns him.... How much more, then, it requires different intentions of the eye and of the mind to attend to different departments of knowledge! How differently the poet and the naturalist look at objects!”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
“Some of these men had become abstrusely entangled with the spying departments of other nations and would give an amusing jump if you came from behind and tapped them on the shoulder.”
—Vladimir Nabokov (18991977)
