Joseph Murray - Death

Death

Murray died on November 26, 2012, aged 93. He suffered a stroke at his suburban Boston home on Thanksgiving and died at Brigham and Women's Hospital, the very hospital where he had performed the first organ transplant operation.

Murray is featured in the book Beyond Recognition, previously titled Camel Red. The book is the story of Larry Heron, who was very seriously injured in World War II, and his road to recovery, which reunited him with Dr. Murray, a former classmate.

Famous quotes containing the word death:

    For who shall defile the temples of the ancient gods, a cruel and violent death shall be his fate, and never shall his soul find rest unto eternity. Such is the curse of Amon-Ra, king of all the gods.
    Griffin Jay, Maxwell Shane (1905–1983)

    hung up like a pig on exhibit,
    the delicate wrists,
    the beard drooling blood and vinegar;
    hooked to your own weight,
    jolting toward death under your nameplate.
    Anne Sexton (1928–1974)

    I admit that the generation which produced Stalin, Auschwitz and Hiroshima will take some beating; but the radical and universal consciousness of the death of God is still ahead of us; perhaps we shall have to colonize the stars before it is finally borne in upon us that God is not out there.
    R.J. Hollingdale (b. 1930)
