Richardson had a much publicized affair with Archie Stirling. She also dated television presenter and actor Jamie Theakston; their relationship ended in 2001. Richardson was also linked to her Nip/Tuck co-star John Hensley.
Richardson is divorced from film producer Tim Bevan. The couple have a daughter, Daisy (b. 1992).
Her sister, actress Natasha Richardson, died on 18 March 2009 at age 45 from an epidural hematoma after a skiing accident in Quebec, Canada.
