Jim Lee - Technique and Materials

Technique and Materials

Lee is known to use F lead for his pencil work. While inking his own pencils on Punisher: War Journal, Lee began using a crowquill nib for the first time.

In talking about the artist's work ethic, Lee has said, "Sometimes I wonder if we ever really improve as artists or if the nirvana derived from completing a piece blinds us enough to love what we have created and move on to the next piece. If we could see the work as it is, with years of reflection in the here and now, how many images would end up in the trash rather than on the racks?"

Famous quotes containing the words technique and/or materials:

A successful social technique consists perhaps in finding unobjectionable means for individual self-assertion.
    Eric Hoffer (1902–1983)

If our entertainment culture seems debased and unsatisfying, the hope is that our children will create something of greater worth. But it is as if we expect them to create out of nothing, like God, for the encouragement of creativity is in the popular mind, opposed to instruction. There is little sense that creativity must grow out of tradition, even when it is critical of that tradition, and children are scarcely being given the materials on which their creativity could work
    C. John Sommerville (20th century)
