Israel Summer Time - Daylight Time in Palestinian Territories

Daylight Time in Palestinian Territories

The Palestinian Territories operate on "Palestinian Standard Time", which observes Daylight Saving Time (DST) at slightly different times. This has led to some confusion.

In territories controlled by the Palestinian National Authority, DST ends later, which can lead to some confusion. On September 5, 1999, terrorists were transporting two bombs that they mistakenly thought were set to go off at 17:30 Israel Standard Time; they were actually set for 17:30 Palestinian Daylight Time, which was an hour ahead. As a result, the bombs went off while being transported, killing the terrorists. The mistake earned the terrorists the 1999 Darwin Awards.

Famous quotes containing the words daylight, time, palestinian and/or territories:

Mirth is like a flash of lightning, that breaks through a gloom of clouds, and glitters for a moment; cheerfulness keeps up a kind of daylight in the mind, and fills it with a steady and perpetual serenity.
    Joseph Addison (1672–1719)

Every time we get near the land you get that look on your face. When a man goes to sea, he ought to give up thinking about things on shore. Land don’t want him no more. I’ve had me share of things go wrong and all come from the land. Now I’m through with the land and the land’s through with me.
    Dudley Nichols (1895–1960)

I have told my husband that if he denies women equality, I will be in the vanguard of women on the streets, protesting outside his office in the new Palestinian state.
    Suha Tawil (b. 1963)

Curiosity doesn’t matter any more. These days people don’t want to be transported to emotional territories where they don’t know how to react.
    Hector Babenko (b. 1946)
