International Bank (Liberia), Limited is a full-service bank based in Liberia. The bank was created when the International Trust Company of Liberia created a commercial banking department in 1960. In 2000 the International Trust Company became the International Bank. It is headquartered in Monrovia.
INTERNATIONAL BANK (LIBERIA) LIMITED
The International Bank (Liberia) Limited (IB) came into existence out of International Trust Company (ITC) of Liberia. The International Trust company of Liberia was created in 1948 by act of the Liberian Legislature to operate the Liberian Corporate and Maritime programs. In 1960 the ITC cognizant of the need to contribute to the sustainability of the Liberian economy opened a commercial banking department with a commitment to handling customer’s accounts, money transfer, loans and letters of credits.
As of January 1, 2000 the ITC became a stand alone bank. The Central Bank of Liberia required the ITC to change its name to reflect its new status and the name International Bank (Liberia) Limited was adopted. All contracts and documents bearing the name International Trust Company of Liberia remained in full force and effect. A Banking License No. 00-01 was granted by the Central Bank of Liberia to IB on August 10, 2000 as evidence of the fulfillment of requirements under the Financial Institutions Act of 1999.
In 2007, IB was acquired by new shareholders which include Trust Bank of the Gambia, Databank Financial Services of Ghana and Pan African Capital Group, LLC of United States of America. These new partners bring considerable expertise and resources to International Bank.
