Line System
Hellyer college uses a time tabling system called lines. There are six lines; to each line students can assign one class. On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays all six lines are done, Tuesday lines 1,2,3 and Thursday lines 4,5,6. Typically year 11 students take five subjects, leaving one free line, which tend to be called 'frees' by the students and 'study lines' by the teachers.
During first term, Hellyer has 6 days called line days which are either the Tuesday or Thursday the line would normally occur on. The whole day is spend on that particular line. These days are often criticized, but allow many classes to do things they otherwise couldn't do. This includes things such as excursions, and many English classes watch the movie of the text they are studying on these days. They may or may not end at the normal 3:00pm finish.

Famous quotes containing the words line and/or system:
“For as the interposition of a rivulet, however small, will occasion the line of the phalanx to fluctuate, so any trifling disagreement will be the cause of seditions; but they will not so soon flow from anything else as from the disagreement between virtue and vice, and next to that between poverty and riches.”
—Aristotle (384322 B.C.)
“We are now going through a period of demolition. In morals, in social life, in politics, in medicine, and in religion there is a universal upturning of foundations. But the day of reconstruction seems to be looming, and now the grand question is: Are there any sure and universal principles that will evolve a harmonious system in which we shall all agree?”
—Catherine E. Beecher (18001878)
