History
Hammarby IF Damfotbollförening was founded in 1970 as a section under Hammarby IF. In 1999 there was reorganization in the association and all the sections under Hammarby IF got separated. They are still linked through Hammarby IF Alliansförening where the brand and the central register of members are handled.
Hammarby DFF still considers that their founding year is 1970, and not 1999.
Hammarby won the 1985 national championship and two national cups in 1994 and 1995. In 1994 it was also the championship's runner-up. Previously, the team had been the cup's runner-up in its first three editions (1981–83). Hammarby declined from 2005 and in 2011 it was relegated to First Division for the first time. Before its relegation it was one of only two teams (the other one being LdB Malmö) to have played all 24 editions of the Damallsvenskan to date since the competition's foundation in 1988.

Famous quotes containing the word history:
“A man will not need to study history to find out what is best for his own culture.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
“When the history of guilt is written, parents who refuse their children money will be right up there in the Top Ten.”
—Erma Brombeck (20th century)
“To care for the quarrels of the past, to identify oneself passionately with a cause that became, politically speaking, a losing cause with the birth of the modern world, is to experience a kind of straining against reality, a rebellious nonconformity that, again, is rare in America, where children are instructed in the virtues of the system they live under, as though history had achieved a happy ending in American civics.”
—Mary McCarthy (19121989)
