The New Hamden Middle School
On September 5, 2006 Hamden Middle School opened its doors to at least one thousand students. As of the 2008-2009 school year progressed, the estimated school population was calculated at 870 students. All students are assigned one of five houses for either 7th or 8th grade. 2 houses per grade contain the TAG (Talented and Gifted) students. Houses on both floors consist of the same colors: peach, yellow, blue, green, and purple. The eighth grade is on the first floor and the seventh is on the second. Although the school is for 7th and 8th graders, the school takes in 6th and 5th graders from elementary schools for the Advanced Math Placement (AMP) program in the morning.

Famous quotes containing the words middle and/or school:
“It was not till the middle of the second dance, when, from some pauses in the movement wherein they all seemed to look up, I fancied I could distinguish an elevation of spirit different from that which is the cause or the effect of simple jollity. In a word, I thought I beheld Religion mixing in the dance.”
—Laurence Sterne (17131768)
“Dissonance between family and school, therefore, is not only inevitable in a changing society; it also helps to make children more malleable and responsive to a changing world. By the same token, one could say that absolute homogeneity between family and school would reflect a static, authoritarian society and discourage creative, adaptive development in children.”
—Sara Lawrence Lightfoot (20th century)
