Famous quotes containing the word work:

The true finish is the work of time, and the use to which a thing is put. The elements are still polishing the pyramids.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

The idea that to make a man work you’ve got to hold gold in front of his eyes is a growth, not an axiom. We’ve done that for so long that we’ve forgotten there’s any other way.
    F. Scott Fitzgerald (1896–1940)

‘Tis not need we know our every thought
Or see the work shop where each mask is wrought
Wherefrom we view the world of box and pit,
Careless of wear, just so the mask shall fit
And serve our jape’s turn for a night or two.
    Ezra Pound (1885–1972)
