Goody's Fast Relief 500

The Goody's Fast Relief 500 is a 500-lap NASCAR Sprint Cup Series stock car race held at the 0.526 miles (0.847 km) Martinsville Speedway in Ridgeway, Virginia, just outside of Martinsville. The Goody's Fast Relief 500 has been run in every Sprint Cup season, starting with the inaugural 1949 season, making it the oldest NASCAR race still run today. It had no name from 1949-1955, before taking the name Virginia 500 in 1956.

Longtime sponsor GlaxoSmithKline returned as race sponsor for the 2007 spring race with their new orange-flavored brand with the race title being Goody's Cool Orange 500; the Goody's 500 was originally the name of the fall race, which since 2008 has also been sponsored by the British pharmaceutical conglomerate, as the TUMS QuikPak 500.

The race on April 1, 2007 was the second race for NASCAR's car design, the Car of Tomorrow.

This event is currently the sixth race of the season, the first race where current points standings (instead of the previous year, as in the first five races) determine exemptions.

Famous quotes containing the words goody, fast and/or relief:

It is now many years that men have resorted to the forest for fuel and the materials of the arts: the New Englander and the New Hollander, the Parisian and the Celt, the farmer and Robin Hood, Goody Blake and Harry Gill; in most parts of the world, the prince and the peasant, the scholar and the savage, equally require still a few sticks from the forest to warm them and cook their food. Neither could I do without them.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

There is an animal inside me,
    clutching fast to my heart,
    a huge crab.
    Anne Sexton (1928–1974)

It is an old saying in the town that “most any fellow with a chaw in his jaw can sit on his front porch and spit down the chimney of a neighbor’s house.”
—Administration in the State of Ariz, U.S. public relief program (1935-1943)
