Coaching Career
After retiring as a player, Primo became an assistant coach for the Italian national team, participating in the: 1960 Summer Olympic Games, the 1964 Summer Olympic Games, the 1968 Summer Olympic Games, the EuroBasket 1959, the EuroBasket 1963, the EuroBasket 1965, and the EuroBasket 1967.
From 1969 to 1979, he was the head coach of the Italian national team, winning bronze medals at the EuroBasket 1971, and the EuroBasket 1975. He coached Italy at the: 1972 Summer Olympic Games, the 1976 Summer Olympic Games, the 1970 FIBA World Championship, the 1978 FIBA World Championship, and 6 EuroBasket tournaments. In total, he coached Italy for 238 games. While he was coaching the National Team, Italy defeated, for the first time, both the United States, in 1970, and the Soviet Union, in 1977.
After 1979, he coached the club teams: Magnadyne Livorno aka Rapident Livorno (1980-1982, winning the Intercontinental Cup in 1982), Cantù (1982-1983, winning the European Champions Cup (Euroleague)), S.Benedetto Gorizia (1983-1984), Peroni Livorno (1984-1985), and Virtus Roma (1987-1989).
