Fox Sports World Canada

Fox Sports World Canada was a Canadian English language Category B specialty channel. FSWC's programming primarily featured soccer and covered other world sports such as rugby.

Although its original Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) licence called for Fox Sports World Canada to carry soccer, cricket and rugby as their core sports, cricket and rugby matches all but disappeared from the channel after the first few years. FSWC's flagship program was the Fox Soccer Report and comprised most of its Canadian content.

On October 27, 2010, Shaw Communications gained control of Fox Sports World as a result of its acquisition of Canwest, which was renamed Shaw Media.

On March 6, 2012, Shaw Media released a statement announcing that they would cease the broadcast of Fox Sports World Canada on midnight of April 30th of that year. Shaw claimed the channel "no longer makes strategic and economic sense for Shaw Media going forward." The channel officially shut down on April 30, 2012.

Famous quotes containing the words fox, sports, world and/or canada:

Where has it all gone? I remember that twenty years ago there were geese and cranes and ducks and grouse here, clouds of them!... And there are far fewer animals. Wolf and fox are rare, brother, not to mention bears or mink. There used even to be moose!
    Anton Pavlovich Chekhov (1860–1904)

It was so hard to pry this door open, and if I mess up I know the people behind me are going to have it that much harder. Because then there’s living proof. They can sit around and say, “See? It doesn’t work.” I don’t want to be their living proof.
Gayle Gardner, U.S. sports reporter. As quoted in Sports Illustrated, p. 87 (June 17, 1991)

Luxurious Man, to bring his Vice in use,
Did after him the World seduce:
And from the fields the Flow’rs and Plants allure,
    Andrew Marvell (1621–1678)

I do not consider divorce an evil by any means. It is just as much a refuge for women married to brutal men as Canada was to the slaves of brutal masters.
    Susan B. Anthony (1820–1906)
