Florida State Road 408 - Future

Future

A new interchange with Interstate 4 near downtown Orlando is planned. One construction phase began in April 2006 and was completed in November 2008. Due to a lack of funds, the rest of the interchange project has been halted. An example of this is a new ramp that was to direct westbound traffic to I-4 west. It is now Orlando's version of a bridge to nowhere. Construction at the interchange will resume no earlier than 2013 when funds become available again. The Florida Department of Transportation was responsible for this project.

Effective October of 2010; work is being done on the northern interchange of SR 408 and SR 417, which includes the elimination of the exit and entrance ramps at Valencia College Lane.

Widening of SR 408 between Goldenrod Road and Chickasaw Trail is expected to be completed in late 2012. Future phases will continue the widening of SR 408 east to SR 417 and will include the complete redesign of the SR 408 / SR 417 interchange.

The OOCEA 2025 Master Plan (2000) suggested extending SR 408 further east toward the west end of SR 520. In the OOCEA 2030 Master Plan, this proposed extension was further extended to I-95 in Brevard County.

Famous quotes containing the word future:

    I say—the future is a serious matter—
    And so—for God’s sake—hock and soda-water!
    George Gordon Noel Byron (1788–1824)

The future is just as much a condition of the present as is the past. “What shall be and must be is the ground of that which is.”
    Friedrich Nietzsche (1844–1900)

The future of humanity is uncertain, even in the most prosperous countries, and the quality of life deteriorates; and yet I believe that what is being discovered about the infinitely large and infinitely small is sufficient to absolve this end of the century and millennium. What a very few are acquiring in knowledge of the physical world will perhaps cause this period not to be judged as a pure return of barbarism.
    Primo Levi (1919–1987)
