FC Mika - History

History

FC Mika was originally founded as "Olimpia" in 1985. The club Kasakh Ashtarak was renamed in 1999 to Mika by the owner of Armavia Airlines, Mikhail Baghdasarov. Under the merger, the name of the new club became Mika-Kasakh Ashtarak. However, the merger only lasted for one year, and in 2000, the two clubs separated. Kasakh Ashtarak kept its name, logo, history and statistics, while Mika settled for being a new club. This began the era of Mika F.C. Ashtarak.

In 2007, Mika relocated from Ashtarak to Yerevan. The club has already built its own stadium in the heart of Yerevan and uses it for domestic and European competitions. It has won 6 Armenian Cups and 1 Armenian Supercup since its foundation and is considered to be one of Armenia's top teams. As a Cup holder, Mika participated several times in UEFA Cup qualification matches, its best result being the second qualifying round in 2007, as the club passed MTK Budapest, but did not advance as it lost to Slovak club FC Artmedia.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

Universal history is the history of a few metaphors.
    Jorge Luis Borges (1899–1986)

American time has stretched around the world. It has become the dominant tempo of modern history, especially of the history of Europe.
    Harold Rosenberg (1906–1978)

The second day of July 1776, will be the most memorable epoch in the history of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival. It ought to be commemorated, as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forever more
    John Adams (1735–1826)
