External Cephalic Version

External cephalic version is a process by which a breech baby can sometimes be turned from buttocks or foot first to head first. It is usually performed after about 37 weeks. It is often reserved for late pregnancy because breech presentation greatly decreases with every week.

It can be contrasted with "internal cephalic version", which involves the hand inserted through the cervix.

Famous quotes containing the words external and/or version:

Many are poets but without the name,
For what is poesy but to create
From overfeeling good or ill; and aim
At an external life beyond our fate,
And be the new Prometheus of new men.
    George Gordon Noel Byron (1788–1824)

It is never the thing but the version of the thing:
The fragrance of the woman not her self,
Her self in her manner not the solid block,
The day in its color not perpending time,
Time in its weather, our most sovereign lord,
The weather in words and words in sounds of sound.
    Wallace Stevens (1879–1955)
