Equity Office
Equity Office Properties Trust, formed in 1976 by Samuel Zell and headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, was the largest owner of office buildings in the United States until the Blackstone Group acquired them in February 2007 for $23 billion plus the assumption of $16 billion in debt. The acquisition was one of the largest leveraged buyouts.
