Famous quotes containing the word wrecks:

    History is strewn with the wrecks of nations which have gained a little progressiveness at the cost of a great deal of hard manliness, and have thus prepared themselves for destruction as soon as the the movements of the world gave a chance for it.
    Walter Bagehot (1826–1877)

    Thou shoreless flood, which in thy ebb and flow
    Claspest the limits of mortality,
    And sick of prey, yet howling on for more,
    Vomitest thy wrecks on its inhospitable shore;
    Percy Bysshe Shelley (1792–1822)

    There are wrecks on the fore-beach,
    wind will beat your ship,
    there is no shelter in that headland,
    it is useless waste, that edge.
    Hilda Doolittle (1886–1961)
