Streets
Streets in Duluth's downtown area features dramatic upward slopes, a feature common to many of Duluth's neighborhoods due to 800 feet (240 m) elevation difference between the shore and the hilltop.
As a part of a beautification project during Duluth's economic crisis of the 1980s, several blacktop streets were converted to brick. Along with this change came the introduction of "old-fashioned" ornamental streetlamps.

Famous quotes containing the word streets:
“I am afraid if there is anything to be afraid of. A precipice cannot hurt you. Lions and tigers can. The streets of New York I consider more dangerous than the Matterhorn to a thoroughly competent and careful climber.”
—Annie Smith Peck (18501935)
“A man who lives with nature is used to violence and is companionable with death. There is more violence in an English hedgerow than in the meanest streets of a great city.”
—P.D. (Phyllis Dorothy)
“But, mother, I wont be alone.
Other children will go with me,
And march the streets of Birmingham
To make our country free.”
—Dudley Randall (b. 1914)
