Caste Discrimination
See also: CasteAccording to UNICEF and Human Rights Watch, caste discrimination affects an estimated 250 million people worldwide. Discrimination based on caste, as perceived by UNICEF, is prevalent mainly in parts of Asia (India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, Japan) and Africa. Currently, there are an estimated 160 million Dalits or Scheduled Castes (formerly known as "untouchables") in India. In India the Ambedkar controversial cartoon issue rocked the parliament in May 2012 since it symbolized discrimination against castes.
