Dennis-Yarmouth is affiliated with the MIAA and participates in many varsity sports. The school is part of the Atlantic Coast League, a Division 2 athletics conference in Massachusetts. In recent years the Dolphins and Lady Dolphins have enjoyed success on many playing fields. The baseball team has won the ACL South Championship in 4 of the last 6 years. The football team won the league championship for the first time in 47 years in 2007, and then won it again in 2010 and 2011. The football team also won its first State Championship in 2011. The girls track and cross country teams have continued their dominance, winning multiple State and New England Championships. D-Y participates at the Division 2 level of athletics in Massachusetts.
The football team has created a rivalry with Nauset Regional High School on Thanksgiving Day. The two teams play on Thanksgiving Day each year in the Chowder Bowl. The winner keeps the Chowder Bowl trophy for the entire school year. Recently the rivalry has extended to the faculty with the creation of the annual Chowder Cup game. The Chowder Cup is a flag football game played between the teachers of Dennis-Yarmouth and the teachers of Nauset. In 2011, D-Y and Nauset played for the Atlantic Coast League Championship on Thanksgiving, with D-Y winning the game by a score of 27-15, and in the process completed an undefeated regular season, won the Atlantic Coast League outright for the second straight year, and advanced to the MIAA Division 2A State Playoffs. The Dolphins eventually won the Division 2A State Championship against Wakefield by a score of 35-7, and completed an undefeated season at 13-0. They were also ranked as the #4 high school football team in Massachusetts in 2011.
Dennis-Yarmouth has a continually victorious track program. In 2006, the girls cross country team won the State Meet at Northfield Mountain, Northfield MA. They have only lost one cross country meet in eight years, and have lost no dual track meets in that time. Their main rival is Barnstable High School.
In 2011, Dennis-Yarmouth had teams with ACL champions in cross country, football, and volleyball.

Famous quotes containing the word sports:
“In the end, I think you really only get as far as youre allowed to get.”
—Gayle Gardner, U.S. sports reporter. As quoted in Sports Illustrated, p. 87 (June 17, 1991)
“The whole idea of image is so confused. On the one hand, Madison Avenue is worried about the image of the players in a tennis tour. On the other hand, sports events are often sponsored by the makers of junk food, beer, and cigarettes. Whats the message when an athlete who works at keeping her body fit is sponsored by a sugar-filled snack that does more harm than good?”
—Martina Navratilova (b. 1956)
“I looked so much like a guy you couldnt tell if I was a boy or a girl. I had no hair, I wore guys clothes, I walked like a guy ... [ellipsis in source] I didnt do anything right except sports. I was a social dropout, but sports was a way I could be acceptable to other kids and to my family.”
—Karen Logan (b. 1949)
