Famous quotes containing the words active and/or charities:

“You need not be proud of me.... I’m only being active till you can be again—it isn’t such a great desire on my part to serve the world and I’ll fall back into habits of sloth quite easily!”
    —Eleanor Roosevelt (1884–1962)

“The wonderful purity of nature at this season is a most pleasing fact.... In the bare fields and tinkling woods, see what virtue survives. In the coldest and bleakest places, the warmest charities still maintain a foothold.”
    —Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
