Cross Florida Barge Canal - Economic Impact

Economic Impact

The canal was intended to connect the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway with the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway at St. Marks, Florida, with a short run across the open water of Apalachicola Bay, which is the calmest corner of the Gulf of Mexico. The economic impact was expected to be tremendous: the canal would save travel time and distance for shipping companies through avoiding the longer route through the Florida Straits and link Florida's inland waterways to both coasts.

Famous quotes containing the words economic and/or impact:

A two-parent family based on love and commitment can be a wonderful thing, but historically speaking the “two-parent paradigm” has left an extraordinary amount of room for economic inequality, violence and male dominance.
    Stephanie Coontz (20th century)

One can describe a landscape in many different words and sentences, but one would not normally cut up a picture of a landscape and rearrange it in different patterns in order to describe it in different ways. Because a photograph is not composed of discrete units strung out in a linear row of meaningful pieces, we do not understand it by looking at one element after another in a set sequence. The photograph is understood in one act of seeing; it is perceived in a gestalt.
