Comedy Horror

Comedy Horror

Horror comedy, is a literary and film genre that combines elements of comedy and horror fiction. The genre almost always inevitably crosses over with the black comedy genre; and in some respects could be considered a subset of it.

The short story "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" by Washington Irving is cited as "the first great comedy-horror story". The story made readers "laugh one moment and scream the next", and its premise was based on mischief typically found during the holiday Halloween.

Famous quotes containing the words comedy and/or horror:

Unless comedy touches me as well as amuses me, it leaves me with a sense of having wasted my evening. I go to the theatre to be moved to laughter, not to be tickled or bustled into it.
    George Bernard Shaw (1856–1950)

I can’t talk about Hollywood. It was a horror to me when I was there and it’s a horror to look back on. I can’t imagine how I did it. When I got away from it I couldn’t even refer to the place by name. “Out there,” I called it.
    Dorothy Parker (1893–1967)
