Coastal Plain League

Coastal Plain League

The Coastal Plain League (CPL) is a wood-bat collegiate summer league, featuring college players from throughout the nation. The league takes its name from a Class D minor league baseball league which operated in the same area from 1937 to 1952. The modern league was formed with six teams in 1997. The league currently comprises sixteen teams across North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia, as the expansion Morehead City Marlins began play in 2010.

The 2011 Coastal Plain League champions were the Gastonia Grizzlies. The 2012 Coastal Plain League champions were the Columbia Blowfish.

Famous quotes containing the words plain and/or league:

The name of the town isn’t important. It’s the one that’s just twenty-eight minutes from the big city. Twenty-three if you catch the morning express. It’s on a river and it’s got houses and stores and churches. And a main street. Nothing fancy like Broadway or Market, just plain Broadway. Drug, dry good, shoes. Those horrible little chain stores that breed like rabbits.
    Joseph L. Mankiewicz (1909–1993)

Stereotypes fall in the face of humanity. You toodle along, thinking that all gay men wear leather after dark and should never, ever be permitted around a Little League field. And then one day your best friend from college, the one your kids adore, comes out to you.
    Anna Quindlen (b. 1952)
