CNBC - High Definition

High Definition

CNBC HD+, a 1080i high-definition enhanced simulcast of CNBC, was launched on October 10, 2007. The channel uses a modified screen format during trading day programming, which shifts the existing 4:3 feed to the left of the screen to add a sidebar on the right side of the screen (which contains additional market statistics and a window showing video content from CNBC.com, whose audio was carried on SAP until 2011, when the service seemed to be discontinued), and a wider version of the ticker. Primetime programming is showed in full-screen 16:9 and usually produced in HD.

On May 30, 2012, the right sidebar graphic was changed to show headlines (business news and otherwise), upcoming corporate earnings releases, upcoming economy data, easier-to-read charts, market stats and what's coming up on the program that's being aired.

DirecTV was the first provider to add CNBC HD+, with other providers soon following.

Famous quotes containing the words high and/or definition:

Have you ever been up in your plane at night, alone, somewhere, 20,000 feet above the ocean?... Did you ever hear music up there?... It’s the music a man’s spirit sings to his heart, when the earth’s far away and there isn’t any more fear. It’s the high, fine, beautiful sound of an earth-bound creature who grew wings and flew up high and looked straight into the face of the future. And caught, just for an instant, the unbelievable vision of a free man in a free world.
    Dalton Trumbo (1905–1976)

The man who knows governments most completely is he who troubles himself least about a definition which shall give their essence. Enjoying an intimate acquaintance with all their particularities in turn, he would naturally regard an abstract conception in which these were unified as a thing more misleading than enlightening.
    William James (1842–1910)
