Later Life and Death
Harley returned to Columbus in 1949 for a tribute at Ohio Stadium. The Ohio State University Marching Band adapted their famous "Script Ohio" formation to spell out the name "Chic." That performance remains the only time that the formation has been altered. Harley died in 1974 at the age of 78. His pallbearers were contemporary Ohio State football players, including Archie Griffin and Neal Colzie.

Famous quotes containing the words life and/or death:
“A native health and innocence
Within my bones did grow,
And while my God did all his glories show,
I felt a vigour in my sense
That was all spirit: I within did flow
With seas of life like wine;
I nothing in the world did know
But twas divine.”
—Thomas Traherne (16361674)
“Lo! Death has reared himself a throne
In a strange city lying alone
Far down within the dim West,
Where the good and the bad and the worst and the best
Have gone to their eternal rest.”
—Edgar Allan Poe (18091849)
