The VER market accommodates all companies and industries not forced to comply with fixed reduction quotas as seen in the compliance market. In this market, VERs are traded ‘Over-The-Counter’ (OTC). Demand in the VER market is fast growing. For example in 2010, 131 million metric tonnes of CO2 were transacted, a 34% increase on 2009, according to Bloomberg.
