BYD Auto
BYD Auto Co Ltd (simplified Chinese: 比亚迪汽车; Pinyin: Bǐyàdí Qìchē) is a Chinese automobile manufacturer based in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province. The firm was established in 2003 and is a part of BYD Co Ltd, a rechargeable battery maker.
As of 2010 production capacity is estimated at 700,000 units/year. While that year's sales reached 519,800 making the company the sixth largest Chinese car-maker by units sold in 2010, in 2011 it failed to break into the top ten.
What may be counted as potential bright spots for the firm's far-flung future are long-term growth trends favoring EV production and an alliance with upmarket German automaker Daimler AG. Short-term outlook on volume EV sales remains bleak.
