Famous quotes containing the word terms:
“Whoever today speaks of human existence in terms of power, efficiency, and historical tasks ... is an actual or potential assassin.”
—Albert Camus (19131960)
“Picture the prince, such as most of them are today: a man ignorant of the law, well-nigh an enemy to his peoples advantage, while intent on his personal convenience, a dedicated voluptuary, a hater of learning, freedom and truth, without a thought for the interests of his country, and measuring everything in terms of his own profit and desires.”
—Desiderius Erasmus (c. 14661536)
“But the nature of our civilized minds is so detached from the senses, even in the vulgar, by abstractions corresponding to all the abstract terms our languages abound in, and so refined by the art of writing, and as it were spiritualized by the use of numbers, because even the vulgar know how to count and reckon, that it is naturally beyond our power to form the vast image of this mistress called Sympathetic Nature.”
—Giambattista Vico (16881744)
