Blue Mountains National Park

The Blue Mountains National Park is a national park in New South Wales, Australia, 81 km west of Sydney, and located in the Blue Mountains region of the Great Dividing Range. The park covers 268,987 hectares. The boundary of the park is quite irregular as it is broken up by roads, urban areas and inholdings. Despite the name 'mountains', the area is an uplifted plateau, dissected by a number of larger rivers. The highest point in the park is Mount Werong (1,215 m), while the low point is on the Nepean River (20 m) as it leaves the park.

Famous quotes containing the words blue, mountains, national and/or park:

    Dear Friend,
    the canebrakes
    nestled in the riverbank’s lap,
    their clusters broken
from the weight of blue bees,
    have in time
    become stumps.
    Hla Stavhana (c. 50 A.D.)

Have We not made the earth as a cradle
    and the mountains as pegs?
And We created you in pairs,
    and We appointed your sleep for a rest;
and We appointed night for a garment,
and We appointed day for a livelihood.
And We have built above you seven strong ones,
and We appointed a blazing lamp
and have sent down out of the rain-clouds water cascading
that We may bring forth thereby grain and plants,
    and gardens luxuriant.
    Qur’an, “The Tiding” 78:6-16, ed. Arthur J. Arberry (1955)

A national debt, if it is not excessive, will be to us a national blessing.
    Alexander Hamilton (1757–1804)

    and the words never said,
And the ominous, ominous dancing ahead.
We sat in the car park till twenty to one
And now I’m engaged to Miss Joan Hunter Dunn.
    Sir John Betjeman (1906–1984)
